A whole bunch of random crap
November 11, 2009
I have been meaning to post for a couple of days now. For today’s bit of random BS, I am going to the blogger favorite…bullet points.
- I spent a good deal of time and energy this weekend loading and unloading 2 truckloads of firewood.
- By Monday, EVERYTHING from the waist up hurt. When I got up Monday morning to run, I could barely walk due to lower back pain. Does this count as cross-training?
- While perusing Facebook the other day, I noticed this back and forth between one of my college buddies and his wife. First of all, neither one of them is what you would call healthy. Both quite large persons. They were making fun of a group of runners wearing Will Run for Beer shirts while eating at a place called Chunkys. WTF, at least the runners will burn off all those calories they are consuming. I know these people are not runners, but you are eating at the same place (most likely eating more than the runners) and you think it is ironic that the runners think they can pig out because they run!?
- Running while windy outside: tailwind = good; headwind = bad.
Dang, for some reason I had allot more in my head the other day to write and now I am drawing a blank.
A big thank you to all our service men and women and veterans today. Because of you, I can write the crappy blog without worrying about the gov’ment spying on me.

… veterans … Because of you, I can write the crappy blog without worrying about the gov’ment spying on me.</i.
Hey, brother, agreed, there's lots to be grateful to our men and women in uniform for, but not being spied on by your gubmint is probably not the best example of one of them. (That freedom – assuming you even have it anymore (which is itself a somewhat dubious supposition these daze) – can probably be attributed more to civil rights activists and groups like the much-reviled (tho not by me) ACLU.) The previous administration took the fact that they, rightly or wrongly, decided to send our troops to war as an opportunity to pass a law (The USA PATRIOT act) that made it much easier to spy on us all; and then they also decided to listen in to our phone calls, e-mails, etc. without going to the bother of getting an easily obtainable warrant through the FISA courts … then had their friends at Faux News and on right-wing talk radio call anyone who objected to these illegalities “unpatriotic” because acting lawfully evidently “puts our troops at risk” somehow. To these people, “Support Our Troops” is the functional equivalent of “Support Our Right To Act However We Please, Be It Lawful Or Not.”
The current administration shows no signs of desiring to give us back any of these freedoms, by the way.
N.B.: This is not a kertwang aimed at the troops; it is aimed squarely at those politicians who cynically use the fact that they sent our troops to war as an opportunity for a power grab. I’m pretty sure few of our troops went to war hoping it would enable Dubya, Darth Cheney or, for that matter, Obama to more easily violate our right to privacy, our right not to be spied on by our own government without just and demonstrable cause.
If we ever get these rights back, I think it will have little to do with anything our troops do. They have to fight our wars whether they believe in them or not.

Needle: Moving firewood most definitely counts as cross training.
And also, the government is most definitely spying on you. And me. And Glaven. And pretty much everyone. And they’re probably using Facebook to help them.

The gubmint knows what’s HAWT and so do I!
LIFT HIGH THAT NEW SKORT, LuMu, and proudly display that plush carpet!
